Residents and co-workers pay it forward with kindness
In honor of co-founder, Mary Jane Leader, Ecumenical Retirement Community designates April as Practice Random Acts of Kindness month. Mrs. Leader and her husband, the late Gov. George M. Leader, founded Ecumenical and its sister organization, Country Meadows Retirement Communities, upon treating people with kindness. Residents and co-workers spent the entire month of April making efforts to truly brighten someone’s day. And their efforts continue throughout the year.
Our residents visited with children at the U-Gro daycare center next to our campus and presented handmade cards covered with hearts and words of love and caring straight from the heart. The kids loved the visit and were proud to show residents their toys, drawings and classroom. According to Community Life Associate Sammi Simmons, “This was a great visit with our friendly neighbors. The teachers are great to work with and our residents enjoy time spent with children.”
Residents also made blankets for women residing at Harrisburg’s Bethesda Mission. The group even made special blankets for puppies at the Humane Society of Harrisburg.
Simmons concludes, “Our residents truly amaze me with their kindness when put to the challenge. Here’s to practicing it all year long!”
